The world longs for the day when coronavirus vaccines will let us return to normal. But how long before we get there?
In January, the European Commission announced it wants 70 percent of adults in the EU to get their jab by the end of the summer.
But in the first quarter of 2021, the EU missed a key early vaccination goal, with only five countries managing to vaccinate 80 percent of people over the age of 80. After AstraZeneca came up millions of doses short on its projected deliveries in the first quarter, and with many countries not using all the doses already delivered to them, the bloc’s vaccination efforts were painfully slow.
