The pair held a joint press conference – shortly before she was photographed awkwardly holding Donald Trump’s hand, and shortly after she extended an invitation for a state visit to London to meet the Queen – which began with the usual invocations of the sacred bond between the United Kingdom and the United States. “The special relationship between our two countries has been one of the great forces in history for justice and for peace,” Trump declared in his opening statement. “We have one of the great bonds.”
