Sustaining the Anchoveta Fishery in Peru by maria Damanaki
''I’m traveling in Peru this week with a focus on the Humboldt Current, the world’s most productive marine ecosystem. This dynamic ecosystem, full of whales, dolphins, sea lions, and penguins, is supported at its foundation by the anchoveta. The anchoveta is crucial to the social welfare of the region, supporting a significant portion of the region’s fishing industry. Sustainable management of this fishery will ensure the continued ecological productivity of the Humboldt Current and economic returns for a major industry..''
